Birthday weekend part 1

Thursday night I finished call and got in a nice sunset run to kick off birthday weekend. The next morning I headed off to Charlotte. First stop was the growler shop for a flight and a refill.

That might was the premiere of the movie unReal at the whitewater center. I got there early to reserve a spot.
And enjoyed another wonderful wwc sunset.

At one point they released a rehabilitated owl. Can't see him in the picture. We joked it was all for my birthday!

The gang ready for the movie!

The movie was a documentary of several literally unreal mountain biking rides. The first started on a cliff face. The cinematography was amazing.

Hard to capture on the camera. But a great movie and absolutely fabulous time with a lot of friends I hadn't seen in awhile!

Floating

Before the airport we went for a float along the Boise River. Ginger Jesus (aka Jason's brother) having a moment on the water.
Jason and I shared a boat. Meaning I didn't have to worry about preventing myself from hitting a tree...
Relaxing!

Jason braved the water. I enjoyed dipping my hands and feet. It was a bit chilly!
The rest of the gang. Including the infamous noodle boy...
Avoiding trees and Rapids.

Saving the others. Ish.

Contemplating.
Enjoying life!

Coming up to time to get out of the water...
Battling the boat to deflate. Excellent BBQ afterwards!
Sad to leave Boise but glad I get to see the travel Danners soon on a plane to NZ!

Last day in Boise

Sunday morning I went on a walk around town checking out some sights and also getting a nice coffee. It had finally cooled off!
The Anne Frank humanity memorial. Very nicely done.
And continuing on the greenbelt.
Finished up my morning at prefunk. Book and beer, couldn't be better!

Tour de Fat

Saturday happened to be the Boise tour de fat. This event by new Belgium brewery is a bicycle costume parade followed by beer and music and carnival type acts. Lucy and I fortuitously found matching cheerless costumes for $4 a pop at a uniform shop going out of business...
Super decorations for helmet and bikes found by Lucy at michaels.
Jason was the coolest nerd in town with two cheerleaders! Revenge of the nerds!
True love is sharing a camel back.
Ready to go!
There were 11000 people at the parade, the largest in the country....
Still ready! There were some delays as the police couldn't seem to get roads closed.
Proof we belonged.

Some aliens to get the crowd fired up.
Pretty bike!
Finally time to go! Confetti and we are off!

After the race we started in on the brews!
And cute carnival style decor and educational exhibits.
Some of the entertainers.

Long line for carnie blood but we got it!
Aliens are back.
We spent some time in the shade where Lucy showed off her art skills with an OR marker :)
Apparently they actually know this guy....
One of the last acts. I found it highly entertaining. I was also pretty intoxicated....

Final dance party with the last live music act. Cheers!
