Pihea Trail and Alaka'i Swamp

Sunday morning we headed out for our first hike in Koke'e state park/Waimea canyon. We stopped off at Kalalau lookout to take advantage of the clear skies.
Looking toward the na'pali coast.
Next stop was pihea trail.
Great views this morning.
If not a little muddy from all the rain.

We headed into the akala'i swamp area.
Boardwalk in a lot of places. If decrepit at spots!

By the time we got to the kilohana lookout it was quite socked in with cloud. Another couple said it was their 6th time there over the years and they had never seen the view! We did have a nice beer and lunch.
We also got cell reception!

Headed back up the stairs and back across the swamp.
Decent views on one side.
And clouds on the other! Same spot, 3 hours apart!
Our total walk was 13k.
