Snowshoeing

For the snowshoe trip we first took two chair lifts up up and up.

It was a bit chilly but warmed up fast once we got moving!

All the new snow made for a gorgeous walk.

Some of the taller trees.  Most of these are from after the mining.  There are a few olders ones as well.  Our guide was a naturalist and told us all kinds of things about beetles and hares and scat...

We came out onto a clearing and found some expert skiers going off piste down a very steep hill.

We stuck to snowshoeing...

More great views.  We took a break for snack including chocolate.

I also found a swing!

Kerri jumped off the swing.

We enjoyed making some new trails of our own as well!

One of the girls on the tour went to EVMS and is now a resident at CHKD.  Small world!  She started med school just after I left.

In this building is the howitzer, a WWII cannon that is used to clear avalanche areas across the valley.

Some dying trees courtesy of porcupines.  They are still pretty.  Great day!
