New Year's Day

We awoke to a beautiful day up at Douglas rock.
The other two trampers who had been there left fairly early so we had the whole place to ourselves.

After breakfast we headed over towards Copland pass. The snow line is about 3-4 miles away, but we just went a short bit and found a sunny spot by the Copland river.

Heading down the valley.
Not a bad spot for a swim. The water was of course glacial.

After a quick dip (nick all the way in, me just legs), time for beersies!

I stayed in the sunshine while nick ventured in a few more times.
Then back to the hut for a lovely picnic lunch!
We took a wee nap in the sun and did some yoga. Fabulous day up away from everything.
My attempts at recreating the 1930s look when the hut was built :)
At midnight east coast time (well actually 1 am, we were a bit late), we popped open the bubbly to celebrate.
Our festive hut candle :)
And a fire to round out the evening. Best New Year's Day ever :)
