Brewster Hut

On our was to Haast 2 January, Lindsay and I decided to go up to Mount Brewster.  Mom and Sue elected for the less steep blue pools.  The hike is only 2 miles or so up, but something like 3500ft elevation gain in those two miles.  As you can tell from the track below!

It was a little damp and quite overcast as we went up up up.  Nice spider webs though with the dew!

Unfortunately no views at the top due to being in a cloud.  But also no sandflies!  And we were excited to find the hut, as it was a little tough to see in the clouds until we were quite close!

Going to need to come back here on a clear day to enjoy the beautiful views!

A little bit of clearing of the cloud...

On our way up we had seen guys with skis on their back (there is a glacier nearby the hut) walking down.  As we descended the very steep track, we just kept being happy we didn't have skis on our backs...

Back in the forest.  Challenging hike, but glad we did it.  The hut is in a great location and now we know we need to come back and spend more time there!
