Mount Tuhua

On our way to Hokitika, we stopped at Lake Kaniere.  Mom and Sue chose the more flat lake walk, and Lindsay and I headed up another steep steep track.  This was was just a little longer than Mt Brewster, so a little less steep.  And luckily a fine day, so we would have views at the top!

Viewpoint heading up, overlooking Lake Kaniere

As usual the lake keeps getting smaller and smaller!

Just after crossing the saddle, looking back towards where we came from!

Getting some really spectacular views along the ridge.

We had to cross about 10 mini peaks before getting to the actual peak...

Made it to the top, beer with the southern alps behind.  Great views!

We could see to the alps, to Hokitika town, the tasman sea, the valley and Lake Kaniere.

And looking back towards the peak as we made our way down.

Weka came over to play.  Lindsay briefly thought it was a weasel, but lukcily didn't try to kill it!

Another section of DOWNhill in the forest.  But not as bad after Brewster!

Although we had gotten just a little muddy....luckily could wash our boots some in the lake.
