Honomalino Bay

My next stop on my journey down the west coast was Honomalino bay.  http://www.bigislandhikes.com/honomalino/

Accessible via Miloli'i bay, this trail starts after a fairly steep drive downhill into the fishing village.   And then a lot of lava...

But it's worth it as you come out onto a black sand (really salt and pepper sand) beach, with only a few other people who have made the trek.

Time for beer and relaxation!

Wonderful breezes after a hot walk over the lava.

On the way back through the woods, I need to look up what these plants are.  They seem to be taking over...

And a flower amongst the lava.

Looking back towards Mauna Loa, where all this lava came from.

Miloli'i, the last fishing village in Hawai'i.
