Mauna Kea 3

Up close with the snow now.  In the middle of winter, these are ski fields (you can drive up to them)
Above 12000 feet now.

More Mars-like surroundings.

Lake Waiau, an alpine lake at 13022 feet.  It is sacred, so I didn't get too close.

And more and more snow about.

Still not horribly cold, probably around 40 degrees F.

Walking towards the observatories and labs.

Another ski/sledding hill.

The end of the trail where it meets the road.  The last mile of the hike is on the road up around the summit cone.  This was the cold and windy part!
