Kaikoura 4

After the cliff walk portion past whalers bay, the track turned inland briefly to go around a hill, before turning back out at south bay.

Views from the south bay viewpoint.  This is the side of the penisula the whale watching boats go out on.  Trucks were dredging the harbour.

Time for beer and snacks!

We continuned down the walkway to South Bay Reserve.

A popular picnic spot, as the viewpoint is a pretty easy (paved) walk from here.

Dredging of the harbour.

We followed the walk markers back inland through some grassland and forest and then through town.

Along the way a nice older gentleman offered us all you can pick plums from his yard!  They were delicious!

Helpful signs in Kaikoura.  Nice to see that the town is still relatively full of tourists.  The drive on SH1 down to Christchurch was quite interesting as well, with plenty of slips.  The NZTA is doing a great job of getting things back open!
