Tekapo, Mount John 1

Back in order now!  After Christchurch, Mom and I headed to Lake Tekapo, towards the middle of the South Island. Above is our stop off the highway for some lunch!

We lucked out with a gorgeous first afternoon, and took a walk up Mount John to the observatory.

The lake in the sun was an amazing color.  Great contrast with the pine trees.

Fairly steep walk up, but nothing like some of our others!

Snowcovered Southern Alps in the distance.  We had seen a lot of these from the west side!

Lake Alexandrina on the other side of Mt John.

And more of Lake Tekapo in the distance.

All three lakes, with tiny Lake Mackenzie barely visible in the middle.

We would head on the road below to try to find a trail around Alexandrina the following day.

More views of the lake and the town as we walked around Mt. John.

Our cottage is down there somewhere!

It got a little more windy on the summit, but great views.

Panorama from the summit with the observatory on the left.

At the top!
